WHAT AGES CAN AUDITION?

We accept applications from performers aged 7-20 for all programs.

WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

Whether you're a seasoned young West End professional, or a newcomer to the world of musical theatre, it is absolutely worth trying out. You might be a triple-threat, or you might only have experience in one discipline so far. Whatever your situation, it's worth giving it a go; we have different teams on offer for varying levels of experience and if you have the potential to thrive in one of those teams, we will spot it.

Qualities we look for in performers include motivation, passion, kindness and eagerness to learn.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FOR AN ONLINE AUDITION?

You will need to submit a self-tape to us.

  • If you're auditioning for singing teams, the tape will need to include an introduction and you singing a song of your choice.

  • If you're auditioning for musical theatre, the tape will need to include an introduction, a song, footage of you dancing and a short monologue.

IF I'M SUCCESSFUL, WHEN DOES TRAINING TAKE PLACE?

  • Weekly training takes place on Saturdays or Sundays. Which day will be determined by the Spirit team and will depend on where the performer best fits within the company. Term date information can be found here.

  • MT Associates training takes place on the first Sunday of every month.

IF I'M SUCCESSFUL, IS THERE FINANCIAL SUPPORT AVAILABLE?

Yes. You can read more about that here.

I LIVE OUTSIDE OF LONDON. CAN I STILL AUDITION?

Absolutely! Most of our students travel into London, from all over the country and beyond. If you are able to make the journey and be committed to your training, we don't mind where you are from.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT IN-PERSON AUDITIONS...

We work hard to make sure our auditions are fun, rewarding, supportive and educational, regardless of the outcome. Teamwork is strongly encouraged and all applicants should walk away having learnt something from the experience.

The audition will last 4 hours, and applicants will be taken through a singing call, dance class, acting workshop and a short informal interview with the panel.

WHAT TO PREPARE...

All applicants will need to prepare a song of their choice.

If you're attending in-person auditions you are encouraged to bring sheet music with you for our accompanist, or be prepared to sing a cappella.

You will only need to sing 1 minute of a song. You are welcome to start halfway through the song or just sing the end if that's the section that best showcases what you can do.

WHAT TO BRING TO IN-PERSON AUDITIONS...

Please bring lots of water (you will be working hard!) and a snack/packed lunch. Please have a song prepared for the audition, and MT applicants should wear suitable shoes/clothing for dance. Any long hair should be tied back off the face.

ARE PARENTS REQUIRED TO STAY AT THE IN-PERSON AUDITIONS?

No. Performers will be chaperoned by Spirit staff for the full duration of the audition. Parents/Guardians can make use of the waiting room area at the venue, or drop off and collect at the end of the session.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE A RESPONSE AFTER AUDITIONING?

All applicants will receive a response within two weeks of their audition.

Successful applicants will either be offered an immediate placement, or a spot on our waiting list (subject to availability of spaces in appropriate class).

WHAT ARE THE AUDITION FEES?

  • In-person auditions / experience day: £25

  • Online auditions: £5
